Boca Raton often gets a bad rep for being a “retirement home.” Yes, many people move down to the Sunshine State to escape the tundra. And yes… many of those people happen to be elderly. There’s this whole other side of Boca, though, that often times gets over-looked. There’s a lot going on in this little area of South Florida, and  I promise you don’t want to miss it.

A while ago I made a vow to begin Getting to Know my Backyard… so when I heard about Rebel House, I knew I had to go. It’s walking distance from my little home in Mizner Park, and it’s a must-do in Boca. The ambience is excellent, and their menu is absolutely ‘to die for.’

I’ve lived in this little nook of SOFLA for over a year now, and I’m still learning about new and unique eateries, drinkeries, wineries, music-ries (it kind of works!) around my area. What’s really great about Rebel House is that it’s all of those things mixed into one! You want live music? You got it. You want sweet and romantic? You’ll find it. You want craft beer and expertly mixed drinks? Get ready.

I had what they call a ‘Hoppy Hurricane.” It’s a vodka based cocktail topped off with an IPA. I don’t know who thinks of these things, but I know I want to kiss them. Plus, they switch it up, and I love places that take ordinary trends and make them a little different. Instead of bread, or chips, or whatever else restaurants serve as a starter when you sit down… they serve POPCORN. Guys. THEY SERVE POPCORN. Not just any popcorn, mind you. They serve cajun seasoned popcorn. My friend Nick joined me on this little excursion, and I’m not sure if he was quite as impressed with the popcorn, but let me tell you – I will go back to Rebel House just because of the popcorn.
